Who Created it?
The Cosmos founding team broke up in 2020 and created separate teams that were focused on different aspects of the protocol. However, the project continued despite the disruption among the team. At the heart of the project is the InterChain Foundation which is a swiss-nonprofit that supports network development. The foundation council consists of Jae Kwon-President, Ethan Buchman-Vice President, Pascal Schmid-Council Member, Fernando Pedone-Council Member, Brian Crain-Council Member.
At first, a huge amount of the project’s software development was completed by the TEndermit team but the FAQ of Cosmos claims that the development became decentralized over time. Tendermint is a blockchain consensus project and the company was founded in 2014 to bring other projects that use the Tendermint consensus algorithm. In 2017, Tendermint was contracted by the Interchain Foundation to bring Cosmos on the market.
Dozens of teams contributed to the ecosystem including IRIS, Regen, Althea among others. Interchain GmBH known as Interchain Berlin, is the team focused on the core architecture of rCosmos like IBC and Tendermint. Alogn with Illusion, another team created after the 2020 split, headed by Zaki Maniani t provides infrastructure as well as a validator on the network. It is unclear if Kwon is still president as the official website claims but his personal Twitter claimed that he stepped down.
The Cosmos blockchain is a decentralized network of independent blockchains which are supported by the Byzantine Fault Tolerant consensus algorithm as we are going to find out more in the course.
Cosmos offers a set of tools and SDKs for developing and hosting a dapp on the ecosystem but before its existence, the blockchains were isolated and unable to interact with each other so this blockchain addresses these issues and resolves them by making a new vision to the blockchain industry. Cosmos is an ever-growing ecosystem of connected applications and services developed for the decentralized future and it is a community-owned and operated universe of connected services so the apps and services on Cosmos connect using Inter-Blockchain Communication protocol that enables exchanging assets and data freely on decentralized blockchains.
